Cycle lanes

They are often “shared” with bus lanes, which in real terms means getting run over by a bus. They are full of parked cars outside yellow-line hours, which means you can’t use them at weekends. They are often full of broken glass, or potholes, or otherwise badly maintained. They are rubbish, in other words. We will use them under sufferance when we see fit, and not otherwise.

Ha ha ha. I completely one hundred percent wholeheartedly agree. Great article on cycling in London by the Guardian.

I’m struck by how shite cycle paths are in London. But then I’m struck by how rubbish the roads are in general. Between dodging pot holes and errant cabbies, it’s a great way to wake up in the morning. Oh, and get fit. Since I stopped smoking earlier this year, I’ve been cycling on average around 18 miles a (work) day, *cough*, when I do cycle in, which isn’t every day…
